Uh oh

Great... a week after I stop cleaning my ear piercings 3 times a day they get all crusty and gross. I guess I need more than 6 weeks of cleaning. I'm going to go back to cleaning them all the time and hope this doesn't get worse. Thing is I'm not sure if it's the holes themselves or if the skin around them is just getting raw and irritated from being constantly rubbed by the studs when I sleep on them.

I should've picked better starters. I got little flowers because they're so cute but they're jagged and pointy in some places. Oh well, one more week and I can change to new studs.

WTF CafePress

I think I've about had it with CafePress. They were great to start with but now it's really bothering me how much of the profit they get to keep on items. What's really pissed me off is their new Marketplace rules. They of course have a site search engine that anybody can use to find relevant products from any existing store, but now they've changed it so that if a person finds and purchases your item through said Marketplace instead of direct from your shop the profit you earn is only a tiny percentage instead of your markup. And it's not like we're making big bucks on items as it is... markups are maybe $2-$3 max on most stuff. With the new rules we're lucky to get a dollar if it's sold through their search engine.

With Marketplace sales I only get like $2 per calendar when my mark-up is at least $10. Buttons that normally net me a dollar only yield 25 cents. I've made them $1,400 from sales of my designs this month, and I get $185 out of that. That's just bullshit.

I've opted out of Marketplace for now. I might just shut down the whole store though... it's not worth investing my time into anymore.

Will game for money

I've thankfully had a little more time off lately, so I've been working on my backlog of video games. My boss said she'd like to give her team a week off later this month too, so I'm so going to be doing jack squat that week. No Gaia, no Strays, no store. Just games and personal art for one whole week. Oh, it will be glorious.

I recently finished Assassin's Creed 2 (as stated previously) and I'm just about done with A Boy and His Blob. It's SO ADORABLE and the animation in it is spectacular. It's like playing a kid's movie. It's something I'd picture Frog being in. The platform puzzles are fun too, though there's zero story and the first world was so easy I was almost disappointed with it. It got better at the second world though, so it earns a thumbs up from me.

Finished:

Professor Layton 2
Assassin's Creed 2
A Boy and His Blob

Working On:

Patapon
Little Big Planet
Muramasa

Soon:

Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Loco Roco 2
Harvest Moon Boy & Girl

Future:

Uncharted
Uncharted 2
Bowser's Inside Story

Well, it seems like Christmas sales are finally picking up at my shop. This is the second time I've had to order more Vanilla Cupcake Kitty hats, but the rest aren't moving at all... I've sold maybe 2 of the bunnies and not a single blueberry kitty has sold :( I wonder why. I imagine the bunnies are a little on the generic side, but I thought blueberry would do better than this. Is it the pictures maybe? I did have to rush them so they're not the best... and I'm not with Algy right now so I can't retake them. Blah.

Oh, I also forgot to mention I got this a few weeks ago:

It's so comfy and warm, ohmygawd. I'd be wearing it right now but the only problem so far is the plush tail makes sitting in my chair awkward, haha. I need a chair with a hole out the back. I plan to wear it to the next con I go to though.

Stupid grindstone

Why is there always so much to do? It seems like no matter how much I get done there's always something that needs to be worked on before I can take a night off without guilt weighing me down. I rarely get to draw for fun anymore. That's something I really need to fix. Sometimes I really miss the days where I had nothing to do but play video games or draw completely random doodles.

Edging towards girly?

So, I have a confession to make. I finally bought my first lolita dress.

It's a Body Line dress ^o^ I spotted it at Nekocon and it was sooooooo cute that I even wanted to try it on... and the guy working the stand actually let me take it all the way to the bathroom to do so with no collateral given o__O;; I was so surprised. It fit well enough, but the zipper was busted and it was the only one left of that color. The guy spent like 10 minutes digging through boxes for another one before I was able to flag him down and ask if I could just get a discount on the damaged one. I'm glad I did too, because I almost got ripped off. He was selling them for $75 and after the con I checked the website and found it for $37... even with international shipping it only brought it up to $55. But he gave me $25 off for the busted zipper (that Algy fixed for me once we got back to our table) so I got a good deal! Yay!

But now I need to get accessories for it @__@;; Though I don't think I want to go for the whole full super girly ribbons and lace lolita look just yet... I was thinking maybe something like this:

Something a little more casual. I've already got these adorable boots which I think would work with it, and I can find the hat easy enough. I can also make my own jewelry/clips to match it if I can't find ones I like. The leggings might be difficult to find though. I wish I could wear pants with it, haha.

Anyway! I need suggestions for accessories from my fellow lolitas out there! Anybody know of good places to find pink strawberry stuff?

Hi Money, Bye Money

Nekocon went a lot better than I thought it would! I was so pleased. I was really expecting it to be slow and boring, but people were nice, sales were decent and to top it all off I found some great buys! I really had a good time and I'm actually looking forward to next year. Here's a picture (compliments of Kelly) of me and Algy in the outfits we put together this time:

She was going for pirate and I was going for thief. We got a lot of steampunk attention though, haha. I'm not done with mine yet... I need more accessories. Oh and look! You can see my dollies Lenora and Moira in the corners. I need to get the pictures of our whole tables from Algy's camera.

And here's my favorite score of the weekend:

A fleece strawberry bed set! SQUEAL! It's going to be so warm and soft on my bed ;O; I've been wanting a new bed set and it was serendipity that I found one there.

And speaking of new room stuff, I sort of went on a spending spree yesterday. I've been wanting a bigger TV for a while now so I decided to make a 40" flat panel my Christmas gift to myself. Algy's family took me to the Navy Exchange store they're privy to in order to find a good deal, but they didn't have any Sony Bravias... but while we were on our way out I passed by this 26" LG flat panel computer monitor that I just stopped and gaped at. After about twenty minutes of browsing and thinking I finally ended up buying it, haha. I can't believe how freaking HUGE it is! I'm still adjusting to it, but I know it's going to make doing art sooooo much more comfortable.

And I did end up getting the TV eventually, we just had to go to Best Buy where Algy's dad works later that night. I got one of the last two they had in stock and saved about $50 thanks to her dad's discount. I also got a proper TV stand! I saw one I really liked while we were waiting for them to find the TV, but it was $230 and I wasn't going to pay that...but her dad's discount knocked it down to $87! Can you believe that? So awesome! Algy and her bro are going to help me set it all up when they take me home next week.

But my spending is so totally done for the next several months at least >__>;;

November already?

Maaaannnn, Halloween went by way too fast. I had so many art pieces and products I wanted to do, but in the end I was only able to do one art piece and about two products :( Oh well, at least I got one picture done. Some years I can't even manage that. Maybe I'll get a really early start next year! After all it's never too early to start celebrating Halloween!

So anyhow, this year we managed to hit Busch Garden's Howl-O-Scream almost on Halloween. Algy had to work Saturday but was off Friday, so we settled for going on Hallow's Eve. We even got Satou to come! Unfortunately she's been desensitized to being startled so we didn't get any good jumps or shrieks from her like we hoped, but we still had fun. And the Frankenrock show was even better this year! They had this awesome dancer guy playing the werewolf and ohmygawd he was so sexy and limber and... dancey. I enjoyed watching him, especially when he did this move where he did a bouncey-run on all fours and turned it into a trip-flip at the end. It was so cool. I also saw Jack for the first time in, what, three years of going? He seemed kinda puny, hahaha.

I need to go back to the dentist Thursday for a final cleaning. I went about 4 weeks ago for a general check-up and cleaning since I hadn't been in about 10-15 years and I figured I should have things checked out. Other than a severe build up of tartar that they had to basically gouge out from under my gums with a sharp tool, everything looked good. I just have to go back to have the last of it scraped off since they had to let my gums heal. I have no cavaties and my wisdom teeth are pretty much growing straight. The doc said if I was so inclined (which I'm not) I could get them taken out, but I don't really need to. Yay! That'll save me like $2k. I just hope they continue to behave so I never have to get them removed.

Nekocon is this weekend, marking the last of our 2009 conventions. It's a small con but I hope it goes better than AWA. It'll be nice to be able to come home every night instead of staying at a hotel.

La la la

So my new shop is up and running finally - www.sugarbunnyshop.com Horrays! It's gotten a great response so far. People love the new name and look, and only one person has said they prefered the old store better. I'm definitely happier with it now, it's much more solid than it was before. I can't wait to get the rest of my shirts up, but I have to hold off on them until after Nekocon. I want to do some acrylic jewelry too...I just need to do some research on it and find someone to order it through. I've got a few more shirt designs up my sleeve as well, but that will have to wait until I get my new debit card.

Speaking of which, swift action was taken on that. I've already received a credit for the amount that was stolen and, provided they find that the fraudulent charges are indeed fraudulent in their investigation, it'll stay there. There's no news yet on how the charges were made, but they mailed my new card the same day I filed the complaint so I should have it very soon. Which is great, because I feel so vulnerable without it. And I hate having to carry cash around.

We went and saw Where the Wild Things are last Friday. I... didn't like it. I mean, I had the book when I was little and all, but I can't say I ever had a real attraction to it and I guess that kept me from regarding the movie with any sort of nostalgic awe. It just seemed like a whole lot of annoying bickering and whining that never got resolved. I would've enjoyed it more if it was the other side of childhood; the fun of games built of imagination, rather than the drama of turbulent emotions. Oh well.

My Halloween picture for the year:

I find I come out with better images when I stop worrying about all the technical/anatomical crap being accurate and just have fun. That's what art is all about anyway! And I think Strays and my recent trips into more graphical art (t-shirts, products, etc.) has really helped my standard artwork. I feel more adventurous with my poses, more confident in my backgrounds, and my characters have a more solid feel. I guess it really is important to study all different kinds of art!

What. the. fuck.

Apparently my debit card numbers have been stolen. I noticed five fraudulent charges amounting to about $200 on my bank statement. And where were they made to? iTunes. What the fuck. Who steals a credit card number to buy $200 worth of iTunes material?? It's so assinine. If you want free movies and music online go to a peer-to-peer or torrent site. It's REALLY easy to download free shit, there's no need to steal a card to do it.

I've cancelled the card at great inconvenience to me and the bank will be crediting the money back in a few days. I hope the fucker(s) run with scissors and put their eyes out. I have no idea how they got the numbers either, unless some waitress/restaurant employee copied them down when I paid for a meal. It's the only time I've let my card leave my sight.

Now I have to go to the bank and withdraw cash to tide me over until I get my new card. Thanks a lot, asshole.

Unproductiveness

We went to see Jeff Foxworthy live on stage this past Saturday! It was sooooo awesome! I've been a fan of his for a lonnnng, long time but I've never seen him in person before. On our way here from AWA we heard a commercial on the radio saying he was doing a local show, so as soon as we arrived we checked it out. There were a few seats left and we snagged them, and I'm so glad we did. Algy had never really seen him perform before so I was happy to see she enjoyed it as much as I did. We definitely want to go see him again next chance we get!

Uuugghh I forgot how hard it is to be productive when I'm staying at Algy's, haha. It seems there's always a distraction from my work, plus the general disinclination to busy myself with it. I've got soooo many games pleading for my attention as well. I finally dove into Muramasa the other night. It's freaking gorgeous, but... well, it seems like it's mostly about random battles and running through pretty but empty scenery. I'm going to keep going with it, but I might put Layton 2 or Patapon in front of it.

I really want to get back to work on my new shop though. Unfortunately all of my coding and graphics are on my computer, which was viciously ravaged by a crapton of viruses just before AWA. I brought it with me for Algy's dad to look at (since he's retired military and Lord God King of Geek Squad at Best Buy) and he did his best, but in the end he had to wipe it. He saved my files though THANK GOD. I would've lost a good deal of work otherwise. He's installing a second hard drive for me so I can save my files to it and if anything like this happens again it won't touch them. I should have my computer back in another day or two.

AWA finished. Next up, Nekocon!

So we're finished with AWA. It wasn't our best year, particularly for sales, but we still had fun. I especially enjoyed talking to some of the other artists that were there. We're starting to see the same ones at each con so we're making friends as we go. It's pretty sweet.

We may or may not be in the Dealer's Room next year. We apparently have a lot to find out and to think about before we can make that decision. Plus I think I'd be sad to leave the little community of artists now that we're all getting to know each other. We're also going to be trying to hit Anime Boston since we keep hearing how good it is.

In other news, thanks to an awesome friend I finally have a PSP! And it's lavender! Plus it's slightly sparkly too! Yay! :D

Unfortunately I had to get the Hannah Montana bundle to get it, but I can probably trade the game in at Game Stop. And it came with adorable stickers that I dorked out with and put all over the system. So far I've got Patapon, Harvest Moon Boy and Girl, and Locoroco 2 to play on it. I can't wait 'til the weekend when I can get going on it.

Me? Sewing?

Arrgh. The fabric clovers I planned to put on the heads of my panda bunny hats didn't work as well as I hoped. Turns out they were difficult to sew and the fabric was puckering a lot due to the sharp angles, so I've had to resort to cutting them out of felt and doing some fancy stitch work on them to make them nice. They're coming out pretty well though, it's just taking forever to do the stitching since I have to do it by hand. I'm sorta having fun with it though. I dabble in felt works sometimes but never really get too into it, but I might pick some up after AWA and try to make a bunny doll or something with it. I need to be more hands-on with crafts.

The new material for my charms is rather nice too.

It's a lot better about water but still not completely water proof, but it doesn't get scratched anywhere near as easily as the other stuff. The colors come out so much more vibrant too! It also has a nice texture which looks better. And best of all it means I can make them double-sided now! Unfortunately I still have a rather large stock of the old charms, but I think I'll do a grab bag special sale soon to help liquidate them so I can update all of my charms.

I've changed to my Celesse sprite mood theme even though it's only partially done. I'm hoping it'll motivate me to finish it.

Back to sewing.

Ugh, I really hate having to switch my sleeping schedule. It usually doesn't work very well and I just end up really tired, demotivated and cranky most of the time. Why can't the world run at night? But AWA is next weekend and it's worse to be all of those things while at a convention, so I better get back on days. Conventions are exhausting enough as it is.

Wow, my theater is actually playing Ponyo. I didn't expect them to get it since it's such a dinky little small town theater and they've never gotten any of the Ghibli films since they're always limited release. Maybe I'll go see it today. It'd be nice to see a Miyazaki movie on the big screen for once.

Oh yeah, sneak peek of my new shop.

Is it me or are they putting less flavor into Honey Nut Cheerios? I'm barely able to tell these aren't regular.

Changes changes

So I've finally decided to change my store name. It's been a while in coming. The Corner Stand worked while it was just a small place to drop miscellaneous products, but it's a little too ambiguous of a name for a proper store. It just doesn't stand out. It really became obvious to me when I considered moving to the Dealer's Room at cons and realized my name on the list would sound more like a placeholder name than an actual store name. I also didn't want to go back to Bottled Talent For Sale. I wanted something fun and cute, something that would compliment the type of products I like to sell.

So I've decided to change the name to Sugar Bunny Shop! I'm really jazzed about it. I've come up with many possible names in the past, but this is the first one that's really "clicked" and felt right. As soon as I thought of it everything just started falling into place; the layout, the colors, the logo. This even gives me a mascot that suits me perfectly - a white bunny! And it's not locked into a single style, the mascot can change as my tastes change.

I'm afraid the transition is going to take a while though. I'm still working on the new coding and I basically have to redo all of the product shots. Not to mention all of the packaging and stuff that has thecornerstand.com on it. I've also decided to change the colors away from purples. I still love purple and it works great for my personal site, but for some reason it seems... I don't know, somewhat cold and uninviting when used for the store. I'm going to use warmer colors; browns and tans with a little bit of pinks and yellows tossed in. So far it's working out great.

I'm really excited. I feel so good about this change and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Maybe I'll show sneak peeks of the layout as I work on it ^o^

Halloween is cominnnnng

It's almost October. I almost forget every year how much I enjoy Halloween until it creeps up and I start getting excited about it. I sorely wish I was still young enough to dress up in ridiculous costumes and go trick-or-treating. I think next year I might try really hard to go to Disney World for it. Busch Gardens' Howl-O-Scream is fun, but I think Halloween at Disney World would just be the coolest of cool.

Speaking of Halloween I completely forgot about this new sticker set I made:

It's a little more "generic kawaii" than I usually try to do, but it sure was fun to make. As they all are. I've got ideas for at least two more sets, but I don't know if I'll have time to do them before AWA. Sticker sets are really time consuming and we're coming up on the busiest time of the year at Gaia, so I think I'm going to be insanely busy until after December. But it's probably better to space out my ideas anyway.

I think I'll try to do another Candycorn-chan picture this year. I need to get my Ponwan calendar done ASAP as well.

Sigh. So much to do, and AWA is coming up fast. I need to make a bunch more charms, and I don't even know if I'm going to have my hats in time. I tried to order them over two weeks ago but I haven't received them yet and Andrew isn't responding to my e-mails... I don't know, it feels like he's been giving me the cold shoulder the past few months. I barely got my hats in time for Otakon last time. I may have to find another printer for them... that or look into getting the equipment to do it myself.....

New shirts and hats a-comin'

Wee! New shirts!

I'm particularly fond of the Mashimaro one <3 I just hope I go the kanji right. I cross-referenced it in several locations and it seemed correct. I have a few more designs I want to do as well, but I don't have enough time. Or money. I'm dropping about $2k on shirts this time @__@;

We've also refined my hats so they're even nicer now! I wasn't completely happy with the fit on them, but Mom and I worked on it and now they're awesome! They fit snug on the head and aren't too long or anything anymore. It was a pain figuring it out since the material I use behaves differently than fleece, which is what the base pattern was originally created for, so we had to experiment a lot. But it's all good now! I hope to get a bunch of designs made as soon as Andrew sends me my swatches for color testing. I also have some ideas of other uses for the material, yes I do, ohoho~

English trailer for Ponyo finally

http://movies.yahoo.com/premieres/14842609/standardformat

They've finally released the english dub trailer for Ponyo!

The first taste of the english voices I got was a brief glimpse at a commercial on Disney and I was very unimpressed, but now that the trailer is out and I could listen properly I'm pleased to see Disney has once again done a good job dubbing the Ghibli films. I nearly fell out of my chair when I recognized Ponyo's dad's voice... I never expected to hear Aslan's voice coming out of him! Hahaha!

I had heard that Ponyo was coming to DVD this month, not theaters... A little disappointing, since I wanted to own it right away. I doubt my little theater will be getting it. Oh well, guess I'll have to live with my downloaded copy for a little longer.

Bouncing Around

I'm back home now, at least for a short time. Virginia was great, like it always is. I had a lot of fun with Algy and her family and I already can't wait to go back. We did a lot of things I intended to write about, but now that it's all gone by I can't really recall many specific things besides the big ones, like Watercountry USA and Otakon.

Watercountry was fun! It was nice and hot so the water wasn't cold, and I didn't get sunburned. Algy and her bro managed to convince me to go on some slides this time, which I usually avoid because I have a hard time with the stairs. Big Daddy Falls was fun, but the other one I tried wasn't worth the climb. Then by the time we got done with playing in Hubba-Hubba Highway a crackling thunderstorm had rolled in so we just got a funnel cake and went home. It was the end of the day anyway.

Otakon was... well, Otakon. It was fun I guess, though we were tired, overworked and stressed yet again so it seemed to drag on forever. I can definitely say the Marriott was a HUGE improvement from the Red Roof Inn we stayed in last time, but the beds were still rather uncomfortable. We're going to try a different one next year. One thing that really upset me was I missed the Gaia panel yet again; the only panel I wanted to go to. By the time I got to the room it was maxed out and people were waiting in line to get in. So disappointing. Plus I really hate biiiig cities like Baltimore. It was scary having to walk the streets every day, especially late at night when the creepy people were out loitering around. Even the ice cream trucks were armored o__O;;

It was nice to meet people and some of my fans in person though, and I think I made several new ones while I was there, hahaha. It was also very gratifying to have sold out of nearly all of the shirts I had, and my Cupcake Kitty hats. I was so worried they wouldn't go anywhere. I also had a surprising handful of people ask me if I knew Claire Belton this year. I kept directing them to the Dealer's room. Speaking of which it was nice to meet her and Andrew again; it's always fun to talk to them. Maybe next year I'll be in the Dealer's room along with them! Fingers crossed!

The only major disappointment was my Ponwan plushies didn't make it in time :( I really wanted to have them there. But oh well... they're here now, and the company is giving me a discount on my next order for missing the deadline. I can't wait to see how they do at AWA! ...Which is only about a month and a half away @__@;;;; Soooooo much work to do to prep.

Hmm, what else? Oh! We got to hang out with Satou too. She's back home in VA, so we decided to hook up for a few days while I was out there and catch up. We intended to take her to Watercountry with us, but she couldn't make it, so instead we just went to a movie and spent a day playing Raving Rabbids. It was nice to see her again, especially now that she's got her life back on track and she seems so much happier. I can't wait to see what she does with her art career. She may even be joining us for AWA, so we'll see how that goes.

I really should get to work now. I have a lot to do and if I want to get my weekend to either play my shiny PS3 or read my new Harry Potter book set I need to get stuff done.

Shirts, hats and plushies, oh my!

So I've basically got all of my products in! My shirts arrived and they all look great! I went ahead and got half women's and half regular T's, though I think next time I'm just going to order the women's. They look just like the regulars but with a slightly fitted middle... and it's just easier to stock one type than two. But it depends on what sells best. We'll see.

Anyway, Algy modeled everything for me, so I thought I'd share pictures!

And here is the hat one she liked best, LoL

And finally my Ponwan plushies are on the way! :DDD

That is so awesome. Juno brought it up when I told her how I'm getting new glasses but still won't have 20/20, which is just really sucky. It's so frustrating not to be able to see things sometimes. I'd looooooove to be able to go without glasses, but I don't know if the risks/disadvantages are worth it.
Back in civilization

So I'm out in VA with Algy once more. We got here Tuesday night and it seems we've been on the go ever since. Algy has until next Tuesday off of work so we've been cramming as much fun and random errands in while we can before she goes back to the daily grind. We've been to the movies, the mall, and several other little things here and there.

I even got an eye exam in! We passed by Lenscrafters and noticed they were having a 50% off sale on lenses so Algy convinced me to schedule an eye appointment. They squeezed me in the very next day and I should have my new glasses by the end of next week. Unfortunately I'll never have perfectly clear vision because I have astigmatism... but at least I'll see a little better with this new script. And besides being nearly blind as a bat my eyes are healthy otherwise, so that's good. I also want to see about going to a salon and maybe getting a new hair style. I still haven't found one I really like.

We also managed to find the Carvel store that I wanted to go to and I got a small chocolate ice cream cake THAT IS SO FUCKING DELICIOUS. Seriously, I have to make sure I don't over-eat when I have some so I don't end up sick. Best $20 I ever spent on a cake. I haven't had one in years though, so I might even go back for another one once this one is gone, haha.

Setting up this spare PC they're letting me use has been a nightmare though. The first time I tried I managed to let in three viruses and a mass of spyware. I still don't know how that happened. But luckily Algy's dad is a Best Buy Geek Squad computer guru and fixed it so I could try again. He loaded it up with a bunch of anti-virus and spyware sweeper programs before he let me near it again, hahaha. So far so good on this try, so I hope it stays this way.

And now I think I sleepy...
